We are absolutely thrilled and excited to introduce to you the Orton-Gillingham Riverdale Activity Centre (OGRAC).
This is an early literacy program for children four to five years of age adapted from the Orton-Gillingham Approach (OGA). Our unique program is the
perfect combination of a foundational quality pre-literacy and mathematics program coupled with RAC’s traditional approach of promoting curiosity, respect and fun. The goal of our collaboration is to guide our little learners to be engaged and excited to learn. Our pre-literacy program is thoughtfully designed to ensure your child is comfortable, confident and equipped to excel when entering school.
This methodology promotes neurocognitive development through activities that stimulate visual, auditory, kinaesthetic and tactile neural pathways to ensure our kids build the foundational skills required for the early development of literacy and numeracy.
Emphasis will also be placed on phonological awareness, auditory attention, fine motor development, sequencing, comprehension skills, letter/number recognition, and patterning. Learning is facilitated through group and independent style instruction to help foster the development of social relationships, cooperation, and self-esteem.
Each day, skill development is integrated with music, art, drama, engineering, and physical education through games, songs, construction, and creation. To promote movement and play, we encourage our children to use our outdoor space and nearby parks. During inclement weather, our children have access to a full-sized gymnasium in which to run, jump and romp. To ensure our kids receive enough support to develop these skills, we limit our classes sizes to a maximum of 15 children.
Healthy meals and snacks are prepared every day in our commercial-grade kitchen.
Materials will be thoroughly sanitized throughout the day in our industrial-grade washer. Common surface areas are also cleaned frequently during the day.
