Riverdale Preparatory Academy was founded as an add-on to Riverdale Activity Centre to provide parents with a choice of rich academic based programming. Our Preschool and Kindergarten programs are limited to 5 students each and provide a welcoming atmosphere, where a small group environment ensures one-on-one attention with a focus on each students’ individual needs.

The programs are designed to provide a nurturing, relaxed and inclusive environment where students’ self-
esteem is enhanced, independence encouraged, free choice decisions offered, social skills acquired and individuality is respected. Students are provided with opportunities to gain competence in a variety of skills and techniques that
increase their interest and control over their environment.

Our primary goal is to develop in the students an active curiosity about the world around them and an enthusiasm for learning which stimulates exploratory behaviour and creativity. The atmosphere which promotes respect for self, others and materials is created in order to help students build self-confidence and a sense of self-worth and promote a sense of caring for, and sensitivity towards others.

We have developed comprehensive early literacy and numeracy programs, using the Ontario Kindergarten curriculum as a guide. With a primary focus on academics, our program promotes neurocognitive development through activities that stimulate visual, auditory, kinesthetic and tactile neural pathways to ensure students build the
foundational skills required for the early development of literacy and numeracy skills. Emphasis will also be placed on phonological awareness, auditory attention, fine motor development, sequencing, comprehension skills, letter/number recognition, and patterning. Learning is facilitated through group, and independent style instruction to help foster the development of social relationships, cooperation, and self-esteem.

Each day, skill development is integrated with music, art, drama, engineering, and physical education through games, songs, construction, and creation. Students will also receive introductory Spanish lessons. Our program is designed to ensure your child is comfortable, confident and equipped to excel when entering school.

The students will also participate in weekly community and outdoor adventures, helping them to gain an appreciation and knowledge of the world around us.
